IDOT Route 31 Expansion Project

What is the project? IDOT is completing phases in the improvement of Highway 31 from Crystal Lake to McHenry and beyond

What has IDOT proposed? IDOT has contacted the HOA regarding purchase of HOA owned land along the East side of Hwy 31

Where is the project located? The phase concerning the HOA is the portion of Hwy 31 from Half Mile Road to Ames Road; The entire project phase is estimated from Hwy 176 to Hwy 120 in McHenry

When will construction begin? IDOT has estimated the start of the aforementioned phase to begin in Q2 2024

​

How long will the project last? IDOT has estimated completion after 2 consecutive years of construction taking place from Spring through Fall

​

What is the overall scope of the project? IDOT has stated currently this phase of the improvement project creates 2 lanes northbound and 2 lanes southbound on Hwy 31, from Hwy 176 to Hwy 120, including a pedestrian path and a median

​

What neighborhood property is affected?  The acreage owned by the HOA on the East side of Hwy 31

​

Will my personal property be affected?  IDOT has stated they are contacting homeowners one on one if their property is affected

​

The HOA is actively involved with an attorney who will review the IDOT documents and advise.  The HOA has communicated concern regarding the detention area of Outlot D on the HOA plat of owned property, and is gathering information on the placement of natural and man made sound barriers if needed at the close of the project construction
